The Falaj Project - Innovation in Digital Teaching

This unique project explores ways to bring together established Cambridge textbook content with the interactive functionality of Google Workspace to reduce teachers’ planning time and help them to embed the student-centred Cambridge approach in an online environment.

The Covid-19 crisis has changed the landscape of teaching around the world. The sudden change in circumstances has forced the hand of teachers globally, driving educators to combine old-age teaching methods with digital learning. While digital teaching and learning strategies have been adopted in classrooms to varying degrees over the last two decades, the pandemic has pushed digital teaching to the forefront of education. Teachers now urgently need easier and more achievable ways to plan and deliver student-centred, curriculum aligned, collaborative learning experiences despite the practical challenges they face.

Digital Education Strategies: What are we doing?

The Falaj Project is a digital innovation collaboration between the Ministry of Education in the Sultanate of Oman, Cambridge Partnership for Education, and Google for Education.

Our ultimate goal is to develop a practical and exciting way to plan, teach and assess science and maths teaching, using a combination of Google Workspace functionality and Cambridge’s proven content. The combination of the two elements is set to revolutionise the world of digital learning and digital education as a whole.

This 14-week project will deliver both research and solutions, showing how innovative combinations of Google Workspace and Cambridge have the potential to save teachers time and enhance the student-centred nature of their teaching. The project will create examples of how existing resources, already embedded in the working lives of hundreds of thousands of Omani teachers and millions of other educators worldwide, can be best used with the Google Workspace platform. Reporting drawn from the project, with first-hand experiences from these Omani teachers will give fresh insight into the successes of new digital teaching strategies and the impact online and digital education can have on both students and teachers alike.
